Real people can read your ChatGPT chats. Turn this off.

Real people sometimes read your ChatGPT chats. Wild, right? Stick around, I'll show you how to turn this off. Most people don't even know you can.

There was the New York Times lawsuit that forced OpenAI to keep even the chats users had deleted. That order has ended, but some data from that period still sits with the company. And last year, people's chats showed up right in Google Search because they shared links without thinking.

And that's not all. If the system flags a chat as risky, or a life may be at stake, it can be opened and read by hand. Plus by default, everything you type goes toward training the AI.

So the rule is simple: type into AI like it'll be read out loud one day. Keep passwords, cards and any sensitive data out of it.

Now, what I promised. Open Settings, go to Data Controls, and switch off the "improve the model" option. And don't worry, your memory stays: ChatGPT still remembers you and all your context, your chats just stop feeding the training.

Send this to a friend who lives in ChatGPT and has no idea.
