Captain Kirk spent years talking to a computer aboard the Enterprise.

Now William Shatner is doing something surprisingly similar with his phone.

Shatner tells me he asks ChatGPT “tens of questions in a day” and says he understands why people are beginning to form relationships with AI companions.

We also talk about robots already entering people's homes, including robotic pets, and Shatner has a simple reaction:

“My God. That’s the future.”

Sixty years after Star Trek imagined people casually talking to computers, some of that future doesn't look quite so fictional anymore.
