What is ChatGPT Sites in Codex, and should your business actually use it? Here's my honest take after using Claude Artifacts the same way for months.
OpenAI just shipped Sites in Codex, and it looks like Claude Artifacts and Dashboards combined, with authentication added on. The use case that matters is team decisions. Instead of writing up a document and then calling a meeting to explain that document to everyone, you hand all the information to Codex and it builds you a web app. You share it, your team logs in with their ChatGPT account, and they actually understand the decision in front of them. It's bespoke software spun up for one specific purpose, and once you've done it once it's hard to go back to a plain document.
So I think every business should be using this right now. But in this video I also explain why I think we'll look back on it as an awkward transition phase.
These web apps are completely isolated from the rest of your work. They're great for collecting information and coordinating a decision, but that information and those decisions still need to land back in your knowledge base. For AI to effectively work in your business, and eventually run it, there has to be a single knowledge base, with one canonical version of each piece of information written for AI. When your information is scattered, isolated, or duplicated across a dozen sources, you can never fully hand your data over to AI.
I think the next two years bring AI operating systems that own and maintain everything about a company, and tools like Sites get absorbed into that. It's useful today. It just isn't what knowledge work looks like two years from now.
If you haven't started building your knowledge base, this is the nudge to start. It's going to be mandatory no matter who ends up building the platform.
