This robot is the future of AI powered farming.
And what it’s doing is pretty insane.
As it rolls through a cotton field, it can actually think on its own.
And decide, plant by plant, exactly where to cut.
The machine is called the VTM-09B.
It has 108 different arms that can cut 83 plants per second.
Now the job it's doing is called topping.
And in the cotton industry, topping was the very last thing still done by human hands.
Everything else has already been automated.
Planting, spraying, picking — machines are doing 97 percent of the work today.
But topping was the holdout.
And not because it's hard labor. Because it's a judgment call.
See, left alone, a cotton plant keeps growing taller instead of producing cotton.
When you snip off the top of each plant that’s what forces it to actually produce.
But every single plant is a different height and shape.
So someone has to look at each one individually and decide exactly where to cut.
And that’s where the robot comes in.
As it rolls through the field, 9 cameras scan every plant in 3D.
The AI finds the exact right cut point in a split second, and the arms fire, cutting with pinpoint precision.
This machine can clear almost 4 football fields of cotton in a single hour.
That's a full day of work for 60 people.
So one farm now runs on 5 employees instead of 60.
This machine even has night vision so it can keep operating long into the night.
It's pretty wild.
We are starting to enter the era where machines can think for themselves.
And full end to end automation is right around the corner.
