People are flocking to DuckDuckGo in protest of Google’s AI driven results.

Last week, DuckDuckGo said its U.S. app installs were up 76% compared to normal.

And a lot of that interest seems to be coming from people who don’t want AI forced into every search they make.

Because sometimes you’re just searching for something simple, like “best headphones in 2026”, and you don’t want Google to summarize the internet before you’ve even had a chance to click anything.

You just want normal search results from actual websites, so you can compare sources, read reviews, and make your own decision.

DuckDuckGo still has AI features if you want them, but the big selling point is that AI is optional instead of being shoved in your face by default.

Google is still the king of search, and only a tiny fraction of users will probably switch to DuckDuckGo. But this still shows that people want a choice.
