# I Built a Full YouTube Automation Tool with Cursor (Auto Uploads, Shorts, Descriptions & More)
Ever wonder how much time you could save by automating your entire YouTube workflow? In this video, I break down a custom tool I built inside Cursor that handles almost everything for me — from generating video descriptions and comments to automatically creating and uploading Shorts.
I originally built this tool to save time on writing descriptions and comments using AI, but today I leveled it up into a full automation pipeline. Now I can drop in a local video file, and the tool will transcribe it using Faster Whisper, generate a description and comment using Claude, upload the full video directly to YouTube through the YouTube Data API, and then automatically slice it into multiple Shorts — complete with their own AI-generated descriptions and comments, ready to post.
I walk through the entire build inside Cursor, showing how the Python script and GUI work together, how FFmpeg and FFprobe handle the video cutting and blurred background effect for Shorts, and how the YouTube Data API integration handles uploads, titles, descriptions, comments, and thumbnails (with a quick note on why thumbnails don’t work for Shorts).
I also show off the single video management section, where you can pull up existing videos on your channel, make edits, regenerate content, or swap thumbnails without starting from scratch. Plus, a sneak peek at future plans to connect this tool directly to my website so uploads automatically generate blog pages too.
If you’re into building practical AI tools with Cursor, automating your content workflow, or just curious what’s possible when you combine AI, APIs, and a little scripting knowledge, this one is for you. I’m considering releasing this tool for free or as a low-cost download, so let me know in the comments if you’d want access or have features you’d like to see added.
If you enjoy videos on building tools with AI, automating YouTube workflows, or using Cursor for real-world projects, subscribe and stay tuned for future updates on this tool and more builds like it.
