One of the big AI companies just paid for 330 million customer reviews. Here's where this is all heading. OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT) has signed a licensing deal with Yelp: around 330 million reviews, plus ratings, photos and business details, will start showing up inside ChatGPT when people ask about local businesses. The deal even covers Yelp's request-a-quote feature, so a job enquiry can happen without leaving the chat. Yelp barely registers in Australia, so this one's not about Yelp. It's about the direction: AI companies are now paying real money for structured information about local businesses, and reviews are the most valuable part of it. Google reads your Business Profile, OpenAI just bought Yelp's data. Your reviews are stopping being just marketing and becoming the raw material AI answers get built from. Keep them coming on the profiles you own.
