Can Claude edit videos? I had Opus 5.5 edit this one, from a raw phone recording to the finished cut, captions and motion graphics included.
Video editing is one of those things I thought we would leave to humans for at least a few more years. Opus 5.5 still isn't as good as the best human video editors, but it's getting better much quicker than any of us anticipated. For some things, like motion graphics, I think it's at least as good as the average human expert.
So what does that mean for businesses and marketing? AI has been able to make professional videos for years. Seedance, for example, is an amazing video generator. But with very few exceptions, people don't want to see AI-generated videos from your business. Creating high-quality videos yourself takes a lot of time, and most of that time is spent in editing.
Will people be able to tell that AI edited your video? I think it depends on the type of video and how much guidance you give the model. It's a lot like AI-generated websites: if you know what to look for, it's easy to spot one generated with Claude without much design guidance, and with the right guidance you can create one with none of the AI tells. I also don't think most people care if you use AI to edit something you created. As long as you stand behind the message, the AI is just making that information easier to consume.
Claude can't generate images or audio on its own, but it can generate impressive graphics out of the box, and you can connect tools like Higgsfield or ElevenLabs for everything else.
I recorded this having no idea how good of a job Opus would do editing it. The video at the end is from makevoid's post on X, made with Opus (song and original concept by donaldjewkes).
This is the tip of the iceberg, and it's the worst it's ever going to be.
